About WebID

In 2011, Frank S. Jorga came up with an idea that would lay the foundation foran impressive success story: Instead of having to identify oneself on site for certain transactions, such as opening a bank account online, he wanted this to be possible online via video call andin compliance with the Money Laundering Act (GwG). Frank S. Jorga founded WebID together with Franz Thomas Fürst and Tim-Markus Kaiser, his brother Sven Jorga joined the team of founders shortly after.

WeblD has been holding talks with the Federal Ministry of Finance since 2012 in order to approve the innovative video identification process devised by Jorga. The big day finally comes in early 2014: For the first time in Germany, an alternative identification method to the Postldent procedure is officially approved.

The innovation of Jorga and his team impacts an entire industry. It forms the basis for the significant circular 1/2014 (GW) of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), which is updated in 2017 with BaFin circular 3/2017 (GW). These specifications set new standards for the entire industry.

April 8th, 2014 is a big day for WeblD: The very first bank customer uses the WebID technology for video identification. Leading German financial service providers follow quickly. Today, most of the major financial institutions in Germany work closely with WebID.

The high security video identification center with space for up to 1,000 employees is opened in Solingen in North Rhine-Westphalia. Well-known major customers are being looked after at the newly opened facility in Hamburg, where new product generations are being developed and the expansion is driven forward. WeblD begins its international expansion with new offices in Austria, Switzerland and India.

Offices in Kiel are opened: Up to 50 employees in the departments of development and IT service enable WebID to develop and offer more solutions tailored to the individual requirements of clients.

WebID introduces the Qualified Electronic Signature (QES). With it, consumers can close legally valid contracts for products or services such as loan agreements or insurance with partners of WebID.

WebID launches a fully automated identification process that was developed and partly patented in 2012/13. With this product, the existing video identification process for users and business customers is further optimized in terms of security and user-friendliness. In addition, it alone can be used as “WebID eCheck Photo” for secure, fully automated identification in seconds. The product will form the basis for WebID AI, which will be launched in 2019.

WebID opens offices in San Mateo (Silicon Valley) and New York. The company can provide tailor-made solutions for the US market particularly due to the development of automatic products.

The birth of WebID AI. This further developed process stands for fully automated ID verification based on artificial intelligence, available around the clock and worldwide. Companies that do not have to carry out GwG-compliant identification and have so far avoided the more complex video identification process are now given the opportunity to make their business processes more secure with automated verifications.

The Commission for the Protection of Youth in the Media (KJM) rates WebID AVS (Age Verification System) positively, as one of the first online age verification procedures.

What was previously considered difficult in Germany is now solved with WebID Account Ident: An identification process by reference transfer that is compliant with the Money Laundering Law (GwG). The customer simply need to login to their online banking and the fully automated identification can be used at any time (24/7), quickly and without waiting. This is the newest WebID innovation for now.
